Football Recap: Sam Brown Key Part of Team Effort in Vipers Win + How To Watch

Vandegrift had won three straight on the road, but on Friday they bumped up to 6-2 to make it four. They walked away with a 44-34 win over the Hutto Hippos. The Vipers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Hippos, too.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Vandegrift to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sam Brown, who rushed for 116 yards and a pair of TDs on only 14 carries. Those 116 rushing yards gave Brown a new career-high. Miles Teodecki was another key signal caller, throwing for 214 yards and two touchdowns while completing 85% of his passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Vandegrift was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 270 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hutto only rushed for 57.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Vandegrift, adding 14 points to the final score. All came from Wiley Olson: he went 3-for-3 kicking field goals for nine points, and 5-for-5 kicking extra points for an additional five.

As for Hutto, they moved to 6-2 with that defeat, which also ended their six-game winning streak. Despite 75 more yards than Vandegrift, the Hippos couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Several Hippos players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaiden Fields, who picked up 236 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Fields' receiving production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 118 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Keilan Chavies, who gained 206 total yards and two touchdowns.
