Wayne has been on the road for seven straight, but on Saturday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Boys Town Cowboys at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Wayne focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Wayne was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 41-37 to Boone Central. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Wayne has scored all season.
Wayne's defeat came about despite a quality game from Colson Nelsen, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Devin Anderson, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, even though Mount Michael Benedictine scored an imposing 55 points on Thursday, Boys Town still came out on top. Boys Town escaped with a win against Mount Michael Benedictine by the margin of a single free throw, 56-55. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Boys Town.
Boys Town's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Darien Whitaker led the charge by dropping a double-double on 17 points and 16 rebounds. Whitaker is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last ten games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nyree Poteet, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Wayne's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-3. As for Boys Town, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-6.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Wayne hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 56.6 points per game. It's a different story for Boys Town, though, as they've been averaging only 58.6 points per game. The only thing between Wayne and another offensive beatdown is Boys Town. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Wayne suffered a grim 62-39 defeat to Boys Town when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Thankfully for Wayne, Malachi Washington (who scored nine points along with ten rebounds and four blocks) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
