The Girls Prep Bruisers will take on the Farragut Admirals in a tournament on Friday. Girls Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Girls Prep is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Tellico Plains just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Bears by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Bruisers have suffered since April 24, 2024.
Aaidyn Lawrence made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Even though they lost, Girls Prep hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Farragut waltzed into their game on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Bulldogs as they made off with a 12-4 win. Considering the Admirals have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Hallie Grace Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Farragut got a massive performance out of Rylee Raby, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance gave Raby a new career-high in hits. Elsa Morrison was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Farragut pushed their record up to 9-2-1 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 9.33 hits in those games compared to only 4.8 in the others. As for Girls Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 6-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Girls Prep hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Farragut struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Girls Prep couldn't quite get it done against Farragut in their previous matchup back in April of 2015 as they fell 3-0. Can Girls Prep avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
