Oak Harbor extended their winning streak to five on Monday, bumping their season record up to 15-4 in the process. Everything went their way against the Genoa Area Comets as they made off with a 19-7 victory. The result was nothing new for the Rockets, who have now won 13 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Morgan Lalonde made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tatum Baumgartner, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Hannah Schimmoeller was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Oak Harbor was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .558. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in five consecutive games.
As for Genoa Area, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-10. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 2, 2022, but that streak is no more.
On Genoa Area's side, Emersen Bickel was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kylie Pennington, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Oak Harbor will challenge rival Lake at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Rockets 3.2, the Flyers 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Genoa Area is set to take on their familiar foe Rossford at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
