Wallace has been on the road for five straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Southwest Roughriders at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wallace will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 206th, while the Roughriders are ranked 95th).
On Friday, Wallace was able to grind out a solid win over the Wildcats, taking the game 44-34. That ten point margin sets a new team best for Wallace this season.
Wallace's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kendyl Flaming, who scored 12 points along with two steals and two blocks. It was the first time this season that Flaming posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was Reagan Pelster, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 19-19 at halftime, Southwest was not quite the Tigers' equal in the second half on Tuesday. Southwest was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 40-39 to the Tigers.
Despite the defeat, Southwest had strong showings from Kyra Nelms, who scored 14 points along with three steals and two blocks, and Anastasia Gallegos, who scored nine points along with five steals. Nelms is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Anikka Nelms was another key contributor, scoring five points along with two steals.
Wallace is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 8-12 record this season. As for Southwest, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-7.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Wallace have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Southwest struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Wallace suffered a grim 58-36 defeat to the Roughriders in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Wallace, Caylin Barnett (who scored 28 points along with six steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
