The Smithtown Christian Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Shelter Island Islanders at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. Smithtown Christian will be strutting in after a victory while Shelter Island will be coming in after a defeat.
Smithtown Christian scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They blew past Bridgehampton 76-56. The score was all tied up 28-28 at the break, but Smithtown Christian was the better team in the second half.
Smithtown Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lorenzo Crilly out in front who scored 26 points. Those 26 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah McCarter, who scored 24 points.
Meanwhile, Shelter Island's recent rough patch got a bit rougher back in November after their 16th straight loss dating back to last season. They were outmatched by Miller Place on the road and fell 80-47. Shelter Island was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-18.
Shelter Island's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Evan Weslek, who scored 23 points, and Harrison Weslek who scored 19 points.
Smithtown Christian's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Shelter Island, they bumped their record down to 0-1 with that loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday's game: Smithtown Christian have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 7.2 threes per game. However, it's not like Shelter Island struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4 threes per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
