Colquitt County (Moultrie, Ga.) grabbed a lead in the first quarter and rode that momentum to a 27-9 win over
Coffee (Douglas, Ga.).
The Packers put up seven points in the opening frame. Colquitt County scored on a
John Boatright touchdown run.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Boatright in the first quarter, CC led 10-0 at the half.
The Moultrie school expanded its lead to 11 points entering the fourth quarter. The Packers' lone score in the quarter came on a
Cole Segraves touchdown pass to
Quan Patillo.
Lacarvius Sears made a difference for the Trojans. The sophomore running back ran for one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to five on the year.
Colquitt County's standout player in the win was Segraves. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns. He has now scored three touchdowns on the season.
Coffee's lone touchdown came on a 3-yard run by Sears in the third quarter.
CC came in allowing an average of 18.0 points per game this season. The defense really stepped up, holding CHS well below its season average of 28.5 points scored per game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 38-14 win for Colquitt County.
The victory was a step in the right direction for CC, which was coming off a 38-36 defeat at the hands of Valdosta in its previous game.
Colquitt County (6-3) goes up against Camden County in a AAAAAA Region 1 game matchup next week, while Coffee (5-4) locks horns with Valdosta also in a AAAAAA Region 1 game.
