Ben Farwell and Owen Beishline made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Farwell tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Beishline tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Farwell went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Beishline went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs. Those three RBI gave Farwell a new career-high.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cole Sorber, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Ryder Wilson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Nativity BVM had no trouble coming through when it counted. Everything went their way against Moravian Academy on Tuesday as they made off with an 11-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Green Wave.
Like Benton, Nativity BVM also got a great game from a pair of two-way players: STEPHEN KARINCH. Throwing, KARINCH struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, RYAN GRABOWSKI pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Nativity BVM's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 3-1 (and 5-13 when he doesn't). At the plate, KARINCH went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs, while GRABOWSKI earned two runs and three stolen bases.
In other batting news, Nativity BVM got a big performance out of MARC LUTZKANIN, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. The Green Wave are undefeated when LUTZKANIN posts two or more runs, but 5-14 otherwise. TREY KEATING was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Nativity BVM hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive games.
Benton's record now sits at 12-6. As for Nativity BVM, their record is now 8-14.
