The Lafayette Hornets will venture away from home to square off against the Madison County Cowboys at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lafayette is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Lafayette took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. Everything went their way against Dixie County as they made off with an 11-1 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Hornets needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Ella McAdams was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2. Khloe Crotts was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Lafayette always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Madison County entered their tilt with Bell on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bulldogs, sneaking past 4-2.
Alden Bass made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Bass wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Anna-Kayte Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
Madison County's record now sits at 12-1. As for Lafayette, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 10-9 record.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lafayette has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Madison County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Lafayette came up short against Madison County in their previous meeting back in March, falling 6-1. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
