The Mt. Vernon Wildcats had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Southridge by a score of 49-42 on Friday. The victory was all the more spectacular given Mt. Vernon's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while Southridge is ranked 58th).
Mt. Vernon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nicot Burnett, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Clowers, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Mt. Vernon's victory ended a 13-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-6. As for Southridge, their loss dropped their record down to 10-2.
Mt. Vernon's road trip will continue as they head out to face Harrisburg at 5:30 p.m. on January 15th. As for Southridge, they will take on Heritage Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
