Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in prep girls basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2023-24 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Jaloni Cambridge of
Montverde Academy (Montverde) is the 2023-24 Florida MaxPreps Player of the Year. The 5-foot-7 senior guard led the Eagles to a 21-4 record, top 10 national ranking and likely appearance in next month's Chipotle Nationals.
For the season, Cambridge averaged 20.4 points, 8.5 assists, 6.6 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game. She shined against ranked opponents, scoring 29 in a loss to Long Island Lutheran (Brookville, N.Y.) and 27 against Bishop McNamara (Forestville, Md.).

Cambridge transferred to Montverde Academy from Tennessee, where she was the state player of the year for the past two seasons.
Regarded as a top five recruit in the Class of 2024, Cambridge committed to Ohio State in December over offers from the likes of Baylor, Florida, Georgia, Louisville, LSU and South Carolina.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April 11. Past selections include 2023 WNBA Most Valuable Player Breanna Stewart (2012) as well as 2023 All-WNBA first team picks Napheesa Collier (2015), Alyssa Thomas (2010) and A'ja Wilson (2014).
