On Saturday, West Oaks Academy earned a 65-52 win over the Panthers. Given West Oaks Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while the Panthers are ranked 141st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jermal Jones and Caleb Sanders certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Jones almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds, while Sanders dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds. Sanders has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last ten times he's played. Lyrique Sartin was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with three steals.
West Oaks Academy's victory bumped their record up to 8-11. As for Bell Creek Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 12-11.
West Oaks Academy will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on the Lions at 5:30 p.m. on February 10th. As for Bell Creek Academy, they will be playing at home against the Ascenders at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
