Two dominant players in Antonio ??tone?? scott and Masiah Jones are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Veterans Warhawks are on the road again on Wednesday and play against the Riverdale Raiders at 11:30 a.m. on December 27th. Veterans knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine games -- so hopefully Riverdale likes a good challenge.
Veterans pushed their score all the way to 61 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 62-61 to Swainsboro.
Loss or not, Veterans got some senior leadership from Chandler Thomas who dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds and ??tone?? scott who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. ??tone?? scott scored a full 29.5% of Veterans' points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristen Abner, who scored five points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Riverdale didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Drew on December 9th, but they still walked away with a 50-45 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Riverdale.
Jones continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. The matchup was his eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Micah Wyne, who scored 18 points.
Veterans' defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Riverdale, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Keep an eye on the arc in Wednesday's game: Veterans have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 5.8 threes per game. It's a different story for Riverdale, though, as they've been averaging only 5.8 threes per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Veterans came up short against Riverdale in their previous matchup back in February of 2017, falling 74-65. Can Veterans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
