Avella is 0-9 against Carmichaels since April of 2017 but things could change on Wednesday. The Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mighty Mikes at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Avella took a nine-run defeat the last time they faced off against Bethlehem Center, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Bulldogs 9-7. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Emily Buel made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Buel was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
Buel wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Avrey Rado, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was Rado's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Carmichaels strolled into their game on Tuesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Mapletown a 15-0 shutout. The Mighty Mikes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by eight runs or more this season.
Like Avella, Carmichaels also got a great game from a two-way player: Bailey Barnyak. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Barnyak has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Ali Jacobs and Ke'Lani Chun did most of the damage at the plate: Jacobs went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Chun went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Carys McConnell was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Carmichaels always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .654. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mapletown only posted an OBP of .091.
Carmichaels' victory was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-0. As for Avella, their win bumped their record up to 3-9.
Avella might still be hurting after the 11-0 loss they got from Carmichaels in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
