The Elba Lancers will venture away from home to face off against the Fillmore Eagles at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Elba will bounce into Saturday's matchup after beating Oakfield-Alabama, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Lancers put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 7-1 win on Wednesday. The Lancers not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 29, 2025 (when they won 12-1).
Mason Vigiano spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 14 Ks.
At the plate, Bing Zuber was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Mark Caparco, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases.
Elba was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oakfield-Alabama only posted a batting average of .125.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Fillmore faced off against Friendship on Friday. The Eagles never let the Golden Eagles get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Golden Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Wade DeRock and Braylon Hatch were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, DeRock struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Hatch pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, DeRock got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Hatch went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Fillmore got a massive performance out of Jared Boon, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Isaac Wilcox also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
The victory got Elba back to even at 1-1. As for Fillmore, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Elba couldn't quite finish off Fillmore in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 and fell 3-1. Can the Lancers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
