The Mountain View Academy Mustangs struggled with three-point shooting accuracy on Thursday (the North Valley Baptist Bulldogs were 32% better) and sadly the final score reflected it. Mountain View Academy was dealt a 74-46 defeat at the hands of North Valley Baptist. It was the first time this season that Mountain View Academy let down their fans at home.
Despite the defeat, Mountain View Academy saw an underclassman step up: Caleb Penaflorida scored 21 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Penaflorida scored 15 or more points. Christopher Mercado was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds.
North Valley Baptist's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dominic Lara, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. The match was Lara's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Aiden Simsiman, who scored 14 points along with four steals.
Mountain View Academy's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-4. As for North Valley Baptist, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.
Mountain View Academy will be playing at home against KIPP San Jose Collegiate at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for North Valley Baptist, they will head out on the road to face off against More at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
