Horizon is 0-7 against Chapin since November of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Horizon Scorpions will be home for the holidays to greet the Chapin Huskies at 7:30 p.m. Horizon has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
On Tuesday, Horizon was able to grind out a solid victory over Jefferson, taking the game 31-22. The victory was just what Horizon needed coming off of a 48-24 loss in their prior game.
Horizon relied on the efforts of Itzel Dean, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds, and Azul Rivera, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 23 rebounds. Rivera also grabbed two+ steals for the first time this season.
Chapin fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They took down Ysleta 42-25 on Tuesday.
Chapin's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Autumn Blackwell, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for Blackwell. Jasmine Blake was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
Horizon's victory bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Chapin, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 5-10 record this season.
Horizon took a serious blow against Chapin when the teams last played back in November of 2021, falling 94-17. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Horizon was down 45-12.
