The Galesburg Silver Streaks will take on the Rochester Rockets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Galesburg comes in on four and Rochester on seven.
On Wednesday, Galesburg earned a 6-3 win over Quincy.
Ayden Clark looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Galesburg let Hayden Ralston and Brandon Bruington run wild. Ralston went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double, while Bruington scored a run while going 1-for-3. Those two RBI gave Ralston a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Rochester was not the first on the board last Tuesday, but they got there more often. They put the hurt on Lincoln with a sharp 14-4 victory. Considering the Rockets have won five games by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Breck Calvert made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Calvert was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Jorey Myren and Ajay Runkel did most of the damage at the plate: Myren scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Runkel went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was Runkel's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sam Ferris, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Rochester kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Rochester pushed their record up to 8-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Galesburg, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Galesburg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Rochester struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
