Basketball Game Preview: Butler Lynx vs. DePaul College Prep Rams

The Butler Lynx and the DePaul College Prep Rams will face off at 1:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Butler's tournament run continued when they took on Taft on Thursday. Butler claimed a resounding 63-36 win over Taft. Given the Lynx's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 170th, while the Eagles are ranked 368th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Kerminicia Wellington and Xyanna Walton were among the main playmakers for Butler as the former almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds and the latter dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds. Walton is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 22 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Cyra Conwell, who posted 12 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals.

Butler smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 13 consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask DePaul College Prep). They put the hurt on Joliet West with a sharp 71-45 victory on Thursday.

Butler has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.0 points per game. As for DePaul College Prep, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.

Butler didn't have too much breathing room in their game against DePaul College Prep in their previous matchup on December 8th, but they still walked away with a 49-45 victory.
