Softball Recap: Highland Extends Winning Streak to Four

Highland had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 20-run drubbing they dealt San Juan on Saturday. The Highland Rams never let the San Juan Broncos get on the board and left with a 20-0 victory. With that win, the Rams brought their scoring average up to 8 runs per game.

Madi Devore made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Devore was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. That hit was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emerson Gifford, who scored four runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs. Another player making a difference was Reece Bybee, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3.

Highland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as San Juan only posted an OBP of .312.

The victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for San Juan, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-3.

Coming up, Highland will face off against Duchesne at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Highland's pitching crew has only allowed 1.5 runs per game this season, so Duchesne's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for San Juan, they will challenge Lone Peak at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. San Juan has given up an average of 9 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
