Athens Academy has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Banks County Leopards at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, Athens Academy's game was all tied up 17-17 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They strolled past Providence Christian Academy with points to spare, taking the game 51-37.
Meanwhile, Banks County came tearing into Tuesday's match with 11 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Union County and snuck past 51-49.
Banks County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Reese Murphy led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Addison Hoard, who scored ten points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Athens Academy's win bumped their record up to 13-10. As for Banks County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season.
Athens Academy was dealt a bruising 63-31 loss at the hands of the Leopards when the teams last played back in January. Can Athens Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
