Upper Sandusky is 8-1 against Wynford since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Rams will challenge the Royals at 5:00 p.m. Upper Sandusky is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
While Upper Sandusky's victory against Hopewell-Loudon wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rams sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over the Chieftains on Saturday. The victory continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Chieftains: they've now won six in a row.
Justin Heilman made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Heilman wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kaleb Francis, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits Francis has posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Wynford unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 7-3 to Galion.
Gage Massey was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Wes Prenger was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Upper Sandusky's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Wynford, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Upper Sandusky has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Wynford struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Upper Sandusky couldn't quite finish off Wynford when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
