The Whiteland Warriors will square off against the Plainfield Quakers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Whiteland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
The home team had come away the winner the last six times Whiteland and Greenwood had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Warriors were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the Woodmen on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Woodmen: they've now won three in a row.
Kayden Wilson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Wilson was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-5.
In other batting news, Whiteland got a massive performance out of Colton Shipp, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Peyton Dickens, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Plainfield was able to grind out a solid win over Lebanon on Saturday, taking the game 5-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Quakers.
Like Whiteland, Plainfield also got a great game from a two-way player: Ty White. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. White was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
In other pitching news, Corran McGill looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Zach Rhoden, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Drew White also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Plainfield's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Whiteland, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Whiteland has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Plainfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Whiteland beat Plainfield 9-6 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Quakers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
