The Southwest Eagles will head out to face off against the Miami Beach Hi-Tides at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Southwest is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Keys Gate hit Southwest with a four-run third inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles came up short against the Knights, falling 10-3. The Eagles' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Southwest got a good showing from Marcos Veliz, who pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Veliz has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Brandon Piedra was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Miami Beach, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Mater Bay Academy with a sharp 9-0 victory on Thursday. The Hi-Tides not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since February 13th (when they won 16-1).
The team relied heavily on Ivan Rivero, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February. Ramsey Vejdani was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Miami Beach was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mater Bay Academy only posted a batting average of .211.
Miami Beach's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-12. As for Southwest, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.
Miami Beach's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Southwest hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .312. It's a different story for Miami Beach, though, as they've only averaged .229. Will they be able to contain Southwest's hitters?
Southwest beat Miami Beach 6-3 in their previous matchup back in March of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
