The Norco Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Granite Hills Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Norco knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 15 games -- so hopefully Granite Hills likes a good challenge.
Norco pushed their score all the way to 55 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 72-55 bruising from Murrieta Mesa. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Norco has scored all season.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Matthew Mendias, who scored 13 points. The matchup was his tenth in a row with at least ten points. Kameron Brown was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Meanwhile, Granite Hills scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They really took it to San Ysidro for the full four quarters, racking up a 81-30 victory at home. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 54-15.
Granite Hills' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Robert Petrich, who dropped a triple-double on 18 points, ten rebounds, and 13 steals. Those 13 steals set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Josh Zander, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Norco bumped their record down to 8-7 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Granite Hills, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-2.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Norco hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 75 points per game. However, it's not like Granite Hills struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 65.6 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
