The Eldon Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 22 points or more this season. They blew past North Callaway 59-37. Given Eldon's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while North Callaway is ranked 435th), the result on Wednesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Thunderbirds players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sam Pezold, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds. Those nine rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Austin Brown was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Eldon's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for North Callaway, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9.
Eldon will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against South Callaway at 5:00 p.m. on January 16th. North Callaway won't have much time to rest: their next game is against New Bloomfield at 7:30 p.m. on January 11th. Hopefully New Bloomfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 last Friday.
