The Central Academy Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They were beaten by Piedmont 83-23. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Central Academy in their matchups with Piedmont: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Central Academy had strong showings from Drew Butler, who scored eight points along with five rebounds, and Zach Mcdowell, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Central Academy struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They are winless (0-3) when they can't control their own glass like that.
Piedmont was led to victory by Fred Little and Miles Leaks. Little scored 19 points along with two steals, while Leaks scored 19 points along with five assists and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Little has scored all season. Nate Francis was another key contributor, scoring four points along with seven assists and four steals.
Central Academy dropped their record down to 3-12 with that defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road. As for Piedmont, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-7.
Central Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Forest Hills at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Averaging 63.7 so far this season, Forest Hills' high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Central Academy better be ready for a challenge. As for Piedmont, they will head out on the road to challenge Parkwood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Parkwood is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 56.2 points per game.
