The Omaha Westside Warriors will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pius X Thunderbolts at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Omaha Westside focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, Omaha Westside came up short against Papillion-LaVista South and fell 39-31.
Despite the loss, Omaha Westside got a solid performance out of Kara Stricklin, who scored 13 points.
Pius X posted their biggest victory yet this season on Tuesday. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 59-28 victory over Norfolk. Given Pius X's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while Norfolk is ranked 154th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pius X's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ava Markowski led the charge by scoring seven points along with five assists and three steals. Another player making a difference was Natalie Prichard, who scored seven points.
Omaha Westside's defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Pius X, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
Thursday's matchup is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Omaha Westside have been dynamite from deep this season, having only drained 36.6% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Pius X struggles in that department as they've nailed 41.4% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Omaha Westside might still be hurting after the 59-39 loss they got from Pius X in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Can Omaha Westside avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
