Sandhills/Thedford gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They really took it to the Anselmo-Merna Coyotes for the full four quarters, racking up a 58-16 victory at home. Sandhills/Thedford wouldn't let Anselmo-Merna keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force three fumbles. Sandhills/Thedford can thank Aaron Hall and Ross Martindale for forcing all of them. That's the most total yards Martindale has posted since back in October of 2023.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Sandhills/Thedford was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 209 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 188 rushing yards in ten consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Although Anselmo-Merna took the loss, they still got scores from Josiah Griffith and Dane Duryea.
Sandhills/Thedford will venture away from home to take on Ainsworth at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Anselmo-Merna, they will look to take advantage of their home-field for the first time this season as they take on Overton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Anselmo-Merna focused on turnovers this week as team gave up five on Thursday.
