The Thompson Tommies suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Monday. Their tough 72-50 loss to Devils Lake might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Thompson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 55th, while Devils Lake is ranked eighth).
Thompson's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brayden Wolfgram, who scored eight points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Karter Peterson was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with nine rebounds.
Thompson has fallen quite a ways from their 19-8 record last season and are now at 3-6. As for Devils Lake, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Thompson won't have much time to rest: their next game is against East Grand Forks at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. One thing working in East Grand Forks' favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Devils Lake, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Shiloh Christian at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Shiloh Christian has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 689 points over their last nine matchups.
