The Clemens Buffaloes struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (the East Central Hornets had ten more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Clemens lost to East Central on the road by a decisive 66-51 margin. If Clemens hoped to take revenge for the 65-47 defeat against they when the teams met, then they were left disappointed.
Anaya Williams and Duda Igiehon certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Williams scored 18 points, while Igiehon scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. Atiana Cook was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with three steals.
Clemens struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Leading East Central to victory were A'maya Holton and Emery Espinoza. Holton dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Espinoza scored 31 points along with three steals. Espinoza continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alesha Dillworth, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Clemens' loss dropped their record down to 17-9. As for East Central, they pushed their record up to 19-8 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.
Clemens will take on Steele at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Steele presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Clemens in Texas (Steele is ranked 55th, while Clemens is ranked 259th). As for East Central, they will head out on the road to take on San Marcos at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. San Marcos will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
