Basketball Recap: Merit Preparatory Academy Piles Up the Points Against Salt Lake Academy

It's playoff time, and Merit Preparatory Academy had no trouble coming through when it counted. They breezed past the Salt Lake Academy Griffins to the tune of 70-31 on Wednesday. The Knights have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 contests by 26 points or more this season.

Merit Preparatory Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Miles Petersen led the charge by going 6-for-11 to rack up 17 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Petersen has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ayden Martinez, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten boards.

Merit Preparatory Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Salt Lake Academy only racked up five assists.

Despite the defeat, Salt Lake Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Tyson Harris posted 16 points. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for Harris.

The win was the third in a row for Merit Preparatory Academy, bringing their record for this year to 16-7. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 39.7 points. As for Salt Lake Academy, they dropped their record down to 6-10 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Merit Preparatory Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 73-58 defeat against American Prep WV on the 15th. Salt Lake Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
