Chesterton hasn't had much luck against Crown Point recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Trojans will challenge the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Chesterton sitting on three straight victories and Crown Point on seven.
Chesterton is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Hobart 16-6. Considering the Trojans have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Lexi Smith, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Oliva Milton was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Chesterton lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They are 6-1 when they post two or more home runs.
Meanwhile, Crown Point faced Lake Central in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Bulldogs had just enough and edged out the Indians 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bulldogs have posted against the Indians since May 31, 2022.
Paige Liezert spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on two hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Crown Point let Eva Govert and Lulu Johnston run wild. Govert went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Johnston went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Chesterton's victory bumped their record up to 13-11. As for Crown Point, their win bumped their record up to 27-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Chesterton hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Crown Point struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Chesterton suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Crown Point in their previous matchup on May 7th. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
