The Ignacio Bobcats struggled with assists on Saturday (the Pagosa Springs Pirates had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Ignacio lost to Pagosa Springs at home by a decisive 54-37 margin. While losing is never fun, Ignacio can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 158th, while Pagosa Springs is ranked 20th).
Despite the loss, Ignacio still got an impressive performance from Gabe Cox, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 16 rebounds. Cox hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. Phillip Quintana was another key contributor, scoring five points along with four steals.
Pagosa Springs' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Blake Laner, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Laner hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Ridge Wilson, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds.
Ignacio's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Pagosa Springs, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-1.
Ignacio and Bayfield will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 18th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Bayfield is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
