Chatham dropped their record down to 9-3 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They fell 9-6 to the Hudson Bluehawks. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bluehawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
Brayden Steltz put in work no matter where he played. He pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent over his last five matches. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Owen Wilber was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Bronson Haner was another key player, going 1-for-3 with four stolen bases.
As for Hudson, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-4. The game was the first time they have beaten Chatham on their field since May 12, 2021.
Like Chatham, Hudson also got a great game from a two-way player: Gannon Logue. On the mound, he pitched seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Logue has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Hudson is undefeated when Logue posts two or more runs, but 3-4 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ryan Conte, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Amarion Perry, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Chatham and Hudson could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. The Panthers (ranked 83rd) will meet Ballston Spa (ranked tenth) at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Hudson will challenge Coxsackie-Athens at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (297 vs. 58).
