The Hiwassee Dam Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Swain County Maroon Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hiwassee Dam has given up an average of 7.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Copper Basin hit Hiwassee Dam with a six-run third inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles lost 12-2 to the Cougars. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, Swain County made sure to put some runs up on the board against Cherokee on Monday. The Maroon Devils put the hurt on the Braves with a sharp 13-3 win. The Maroon Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.
Rylee Rawls made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Carley Teesateskie and Hadley Shuler did most of the damage at the plate: Teesateskie went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Shuler went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those four stolen bases gave Teesateskie a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emmylou Cutler, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Swain County has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Hiwassee Dam, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8.
Hiwassee Dam couldn't quite get it done against Swain County when the teams last played back in March of 2025 as they fell 6-2. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
