The Rootstown Rovers will head out to face off against the Berkshire Badgers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rootstown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Rootstown earned a 6-1 win over Wickliffe. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rovers.
Makensea Bittner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on nine hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Reise Thomas was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Cheyenne Cutright, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Berkshire, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. Everything went their way against Grand Valley on Monday as they made off with a 24-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Badgers in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won three in a row.
Moira Wonders made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). Wonders was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one RBI.
Berkshire always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .762. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Grand Valley only posted an OBP of .300.
The victory was their first at home, bumping their record up to 3-4. As for Berkshire, their record is now 2-5.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rootstown hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. However, it's not like Berkshire struggles in that department as they've averaged .392. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Rootstown couldn't quite get it done against Berkshire in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 as they fell 7-4. Can the Rovers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
