Softball Recap: Shorewood Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

Shorewood had won five straight on the road, but on Wednesday they bumped up to 12-5 to make it six. They put the hurt on the Mountlake Terrace Hawks with a sharp 9-2 win. The Stormrays might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by seven runs or more this season.

Ellie Van Horn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Zoey Perreault was excellent, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Grace McLaughlin was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs.

As for Mountlake Terrace, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 3, 2023, but that streak is no more.

On Mountlake Terrace's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Charlotte Snook gave up only one earned (and eight unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Olivia Brown made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shorewood will head out to face off against Meadowdale at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mavericks will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for Mountlake Terrace, they will head out on the road to challenge Archbishop Murphy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The last three games the Wildcats have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
