The Walnut Wildcats are taking a road trip to square off against the Thrasher Rebels at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Walnut has three straight wins, Thrasher has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
It was a proper cat-fight when Walnut took on Pine Grove on Monday. The Wildcats blew past the Panthers 11-1. Considering the Wildcats have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Brittan Dawkins was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Baylee Spight and Addison Hicks did most of the damage at the plate: Spight went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles, while Hicks went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was Spight's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Brailee Quinn, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-4.
Walnut lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Thrasher came up short against Potts Camp on Monday, falling 16-6.
Delancy Sartain made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Brailey Bryan, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Thrasher's loss dropped their record down to 7-15. As for Walnut, their record is now 11-12.
Everything went Walnut's way against Thrasher in their previous meeting on Friday, as Walnut made off with a 13-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
