Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Fort Lupton

Fort Lupton put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 23-22 W against the Platte Canyon Huskies. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bluedevils have posted since March 29, 2024.

Javier Ortiz was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and ten unearned) runs off four hits. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring six runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all six of his plate appearances. Ortiz is also crushing it when it comes to triples: he's hit at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andrew Dreiling, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ilian Tovar, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances.

Fort Lupton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .600 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Fort Lupton's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-0. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 20.0 runs this season. As for Platte Canyon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Fort Lupton will host Liberty Common at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fort Lupton's pitchers better be ready for this one: Liberty Common has averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for Platte Canyon, they will challenge Lyons at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
