The Grossmont Foothillers will face off against the Mira Mesa Marauders at 4:00  p.m.  on Wednesday. Grossmont hasn't scored more than two runs for four games straight, a trend the  team is eager to reverse.
Grossmont fought the good fight in their extra-innings  game against San Ysidro  on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of  3-2.
 Jacob Holman spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned  (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. What's more,  he gave up only one  walk, the fewest he's  had since back in May of 2024.
 On the hitting side,  Durante Martinez was cooking despite his team's loss,   going 2-for-3 with one  home run. Those  two  hits gave  him a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Mira Mesa scored first but ultimately less than El Capitan in their  match on Monday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (4-3), but sadly  the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
 Ziggy Avinion was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound,   tossing four innings while giving up just two earned runs off   three  hits. Avinion was also big at the plate,  going 1-for-3 with one  triple and one  RBI. That  triple marked the first that  he  hit this season.
 In other batting news,  Nathaniel Widelski made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and  went 1-for-3 with two  runs and one  triple. Mira Mesa is 3-1 when  Widelski posts two or  more  runs, but 1-3 otherwise.
 Mira Mesa dropped their record down to 4-4 with the  loss, which was their third straight  on the road. As for Grossmont, their record now sits at an identical 4-4.
