II Section III recap October 29, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Tyler Wyatt and Chad Bennett connected against Ironwood. The connection was good for 99 yards, the longest such play in II Section III this season.
Centennial added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Willow Canyon, 56-0. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Coyotes.
Liberty's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Wyatt threw for 265 and 3 touchdowns and Bennett had 228 yards receiving. On the ground Zach Neill chipped in 175 yards. Alex Jackson helped Liberty's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 21 yards.
Bennett had a great week catching the football as the Lions topped the Eagles. He caught 4 passes for 228 yards.
He was 7-16 with 2 interceptions.
Jared Stangler was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Wildcats lost to Centennial. The 6-foot-1 sophomore recorded 1 fumble.
Neill was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 13 carries, he ran for 175 yards as Liberty beat Ironwood. Wyatt also contributed to the rushing game with 51 yards on the ground.
Danny Filleman's team's Wyatt and Bennett have formed a dream team this season, leading II Section III in both passing and receiving yards. 6-0 quarterback Wyatt has thrown for 2,060 yards this season, while Bennett has 40 catches for 924 yards. Dedrick Young from Richard Taylor's team leads the league in rushing with 1,357 yards.
The Lions' Bennett is a few successful plays short of surpassing 1,000 yards receiving this season. He needs only 76 receiving yards against Willow Canyon to hit that benchmark. So far this year, he has garnered 40 catches for 924 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Apollo takes on the Coyotes. The Hawks are currently in fourth, while Centennial is in first.
Michael Hudnutt's team lost to the Coyotes 56-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Tristan Madden was a bright spot for the Wildcats, as he threw for 29 yards and ran for 10 yards in the loss.
