Sahuaro (Tucson, Ariz.) jumped out to an early lead against Catalina (Tucson, Ariz.) and never looked back on the way to a 49-7 victory on Saturday.
The Cougars put up 14 points in the opening frame. Sahuaro scored on a rushing touchdown and a
Alexander Howe touchdown run.
SHS was up 35-0 at the half after taking the lead on a rushing touchdown in the first quarter.
The Cougars expanded their lead to 42 points entering the fourth quarter. Sahuaro scored two times in the third, including once on a
Laramie Brown touchdown pass to
Lucas Smith.
Brown played well for SHS in the victory. The junior quarterback threw three touchdowns.
The Trojans' lone touchdown came on a run in the third quarter.
The Cougars came into the game allowing 14.9 points per game. The seven points that Catalina ended with were right around its average of 9.4 coming into the game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 49-13 win for Sahuaro.
With the win SHS extended its winning streak to three games.
Catalina (4-5) will play a III Section I game against Sahuarita next week, while Sahuaro (7-2) will take on Sabino in a non-conference game.
