The Lone Peak Knights will square off against the Fremont Silverwolves at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
Lone Peak had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Farmington on Saturday. Lone Peak put the hurt on Farmington with a sharp 9-1 win. The Knights not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since March 22, 2024.
Boston Walkenhorst and Landon Fry did most of the damage at the plate: Walkenhorst went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and two RBI, while Fry scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those three hits gave Walkenhorst a new career-high. Braden Packer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Lone Peak always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Farmington only posted an OBP of .167.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Fremont ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They skirted past Copper Hills 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Silverwolves have posted since May 16, 2024.
Chase Jones was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.
In other pitching news, Tad Grange looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
Jones wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brant Koford, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two doubles and two RBI. Cole Sanders also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Lone Peak's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Fremont, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lone Peak hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. However, it's not like Fremont struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lone Peak suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Fremont in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Will Lone Peak have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
