The Jacobs Golden Eagles will square off against the Schaumburg Saxons at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. Jacobs is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Jacobs is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest loss since May 2, 2024 on Thursday. They came up short against Huntley, falling 13-4. The Golden Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jacobs saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Molly Hoch, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Kendall Davignon also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Schaumburg got the win against Larkin on Tuesday by a conclusive 12-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Saxons.
Madison Linnemann was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Schaumburg got a massive performance out of Alexa Evans, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jordan Murtaugh, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Schaumburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Larkin only posted an OBP of .300.
The victory got Schaumburg back to even at 2-2. As for Jacobs, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Jacobs hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Schaumburg struggles in that department as they've averaged .446. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Jacobs took their win against Schaumburg in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 8-1 score. Do the Golden Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Saxons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
