Even though the Kearney Bearcats scored an imposing 57 points on Saturday, the Papillion-LaVista South Titans still came out on top. Papillion-LaVista South walked away with a 64-57 victory over Kearney. That's another feather in the cap for Papillion-LaVista South, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Papillion-LaVista South got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Wes Frost out in front who scored 17 points. Bryson Bahl was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five rebounds.
Kearney's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ben Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds. Johnson has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Karter Lee, who scored 15 points.
Papillion-LaVista South has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. As for Kearney, their loss dropped their record down to 14-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Papillion-LaVista South will take on Bellevue West at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Kearney, they will head out on the road to square off against Fremont at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fremont will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 141st, while Kearney is ranked 30th).
