The Mesa Ridge Grizzlies waltzed into their contest on Monday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They really took it to The Classical Academy for the full four quarters, racking up a 69-40 victory at home. Mesa Ridge has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 21 points or more this season.
Mesa Ridge's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tanner Widic, who scored 19 points along with seven assists and two steals. Bryce Riehl was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
The Classical Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ky Walker, who scored six points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jordan Wenger, who scored 11 points.
Mesa Ridge's victory bumped their record up to 12-2. As for The Classical Academy, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mesa Ridge will square off against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Canon City is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak. As for The Classical Academy, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Marauders at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Mitchell comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
