The University Prep Jaguars will face off against the Duarte Falcons at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. University Prep knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Duarte likes a good challenge.
On Thursday, University Prep made easy work of Hesperia Christian and carried off a 14-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.
Brie (Brieana) Villenueva was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. What's more, she gave up only two walks, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last four contests, Duarte finally came back down to earth on Tuesday. They fell just short of Viewpoint by a score of 2-0. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Falcons were not able to get on the board.
Alyssa Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
The loss snapped Duarte's winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 6-3 record. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 7.2 runs. As for University Prep, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
University Prep's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. University Prep has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Duarte, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will University Prep continue to outrun the ball?
