Villa Rica is 0-3 against Mays since January of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Villa Rica Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Mays Raiders at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Saturday, Villa Rica came up short against Tri-Cities and fell 73-62. While losing is never fun, Villa Rica can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 256th, while Tri-Cities is ranked 68th).
Meanwhile, it may have taken double overtime to finish the job, but Mays ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top against Lithia Springs by a score of 80-73.
Derron Lindsey ii was his usual excellent self, scoring 30 points along with five assists and five rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Mays' points. Another player making a difference was Germani Wilson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Villa Rica dropped their record down to 8-15 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Mays, their victory bumped their record up to 16-7.
Villa Rica was dealt a bruising 82-46 loss at the hands of Mays in their previous meeting back in January. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Villa Rica was down 45-18.
