The West Point Dragons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Cesar Chavez, falling 81-19. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for West Point in their matchups with the Champions: they've now lost four in a row.
Cesar Chavez's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lakeisha Robinson, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Robinson has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times she's played. Malia Woodberry was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with five steals.
West Point's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-18. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.2 points per game. As for Cesar Chavez, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Point will take on the Stallions at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Shadow Ridge presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Dragons in Arizona (the Stallions are ranked 95th, while the Dragons are ranked 250th). As for Cesar Chavez, they and the Monsoon will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 7th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Valley Vista is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
